Preorder Policy & How Preorders Work
Preordering allows you to reserve upcoming diecast releases before they arrive at Dark Metal Designs. Preorders are especially useful for limited releases, exclusives, sealed cases, and products that may sell out before reaching regular inventory.
How It Works
- Select the preorder product and quantity you want.
- Pay the full purchase price during checkout.
- Your quantity is reserved from our distributor order.
- We’ll send updates if the expected release date changes materially.
- Once the product arrives, we’ll inspect, pack, and ship your order.
Your payment confirms a real order—not a free hold or an expression of interest.
Payment
Preorders are charged in full when the order is placed. This allows us to reserve inventory and adjust our distributor orders based on actual customer demand.
Placing a preorder confirms that you understand the product is not currently in stock and will ship at a future date.
Estimated Release Dates
All release dates and arrival windows are estimates supplied by the manufacturer or distributor. Production, customs, transportation, and distributor delays may change the estimated date.
An estimated date such as “February 2027” means the product is currently expected during that general period. It is not a guaranteed delivery date.
When available, the latest estimate will appear on the product page or in an order update.
Your Reserved Allocation
A paid preorder reserves the quantity shown in your confirmed order from the inventory allocated to Dark Metal Designs.
Fulfillment remains subject to the manufacturer and distributor delivering the expected inventory. Manufacturers may delay, reduce, change, or cancel production without our control.
If we receive fewer units than expected, orders will generally be fulfilled in the order they were received. Any quantity we cannot fulfill will be refunded.
Manufacturer Cancellations and Allocation Cuts
If the manufacturer or distributor cancels a product, or we cannot obtain enough inventory to fulfill your order, we will refund the affected item or quantity to your original payment method.
Our responsibility is limited to fulfilling the order or refunding the amount paid for any item we cannot supply.
Release Delays
We will notify customers of material changes to the expected shipping timeframe.
If a delay prevents us from shipping within the timeframe previously communicated, customers will be given the appropriate choice to accept the revised timeframe or cancel the affected item for a refund.
Customer Cancellations
Preorders are used to determine how much inventory we purchase and are intended to be firm purchase commitments.
Customer-requested cancellations made simply because the customer changed their mind may be declined or may be subject to a cancellation fee of 10% of the preorder subtotal, where permitted by law.
The cancellation fee does not apply when:
- The manufacturer cancels the product.
- Dark Metal Designs cannot fulfill the reserved quantity.
- A material delay gives the customer a legal right to cancel.
- Dark Metal Designs approves a full refund due to an error or exceptional circumstance.
Shipping charges associated with an unshipped canceled item will also be refunded when applicable.
Product Images and Final Appearance
Manufacturers sometimes use prototypes or pre-production images when announcing upcoming releases. Final colors, graphics, wheels, accessories, packaging, and minor specifications may differ from promotional images.
Minor manufacturer changes do not automatically make a preorder eligible for cancellation. If a change substantially alters the product, we will review the situation and communicate available options.
Chase Models and Variations
A preorder is for the exact regular model described on the product page.
Chase models, raw versions, randomly inserted variations, and other special editions are not guaranteed unless the product listing specifically states otherwise.
Buying multiple units does not guarantee receiving a chase.
Quantity Discounts
Quantity discounts may be offered on selected products. The discount applies only to the product and quantity shown during checkout.
Large orders may be reviewed to confirm that sufficient distributor inventory is available. If we cannot fulfill the complete quantity, we will contact the customer and refund any unavailable quantity.
Shipping
Preorders ship after the inventory arrives and is processed by Dark Metal Designs.
In-stock and preorder merchandise may need to be purchased separately. Different preorder products may also require separate orders because they can have different release dates.
Shipping charges are calculated during checkout. Orders with different release dates are not automatically combined unless Dark Metal Designs approves the combination.
Customers are responsible for keeping their shipping address and contact information current. Please contact us before shipment if your address changes.
Damaged Packaging
We inspect products before shipping and package collectibles carefully. Minor manufacturer imperfections—such as soft corners, small creases, uneven blister placement, paint variations, or shelf wear—may occur and are not necessarily considered product defects.
If collector-grade packaging is specifically promised on the product page, that description will control.
Agreement
By placing a preorder, you confirm that:
- You understand the item is not currently available for shipment.
- You authorize immediate payment of the full order total.
- You accept that release dates are estimates and may change.
- You understand fulfillment depends upon manufacturer and distributor availability.
- You agree to this Preorder Policy and our general Terms and Conditions.
